The Virtual Mill concept
Funded by BFTT​ (British Fashion Textiles and Technology Institute) In 2021-22 Dash & Miller Weaving Studio in collaboration with Jessica Garvey Birch researched the concept of the Virtual Mill.
We conducted extensive research into bio-engineered dying, block-chain traceability and digital twin creation utilising emerging technology to create a physical and digital woven collection made completely in the in UK.

The VM Customer Journey
Funded by UKRI Design foundations Grant 2023, into Human-centred research to develop a digital virtual mill to accelerate sustainability, materials traceability and responsible sourcing in textile supply chains. Building on the concept of the VM we conducted a series of in person workshops at the Dash & Miller studio to understand what the Customer journey could look like for the Virtual Mill.

Traceable supply chains
Funded by UKRI Design foundations Grant 2024, Dash & Miller and Pilio with Jessica Garvey Birch conducted research into Regenerative Fibre Networks: Designing viable traceable UK supply chains through nature-positive farming and novel digital systems, supporting livelihoods, climate action, and biodiversity to achieve net-zero. Securing a full understanding of the needs to construct fully localised supply chains in the UK.
